Human nose is the central part of the face with its form causing your facial expression. Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is made to correct the shape and size of a nose, remove traumatic or congenital defects posing difficulties in in the nasal respiratory function. The surgery is for:
Nasal septum and valve reconstruction
correction of cartilage-bone deformation of nasal bridge, as well as asymmetry of nasal axis
Decrease of the size of entire nose
Reduction or removal of nasal humps,
Correction of nasal tip (thinning, reducing, lifting, etc.),
Change of the shape of nostrils.
General anesthesia is applied, with surgery duration of 2–4 hours. Surgery may be performed using two different techniques:
Closed rhinoplasty, featuring exclusively internal incisions with no visible scarring after surgery.
Open rhinoplasty when an incision is made across columella, extending to nostrils on both sides. After surgery a small scar of several millimeters remains in the area of columella.
Important to know:
Sutures after close rhinoplasty are not removed but dissolve.
Following the open rhinoplasty sutures are removed 7 days after the surgery.
It takes up to three weeks for post-surgical bruising to heal up.
After the entire nose surgery immobilizing nasal splint shall be worn for 10–12 days.
Wearing of glasses shall not be allowed for 2 months after surgery, because the nasal bones may move due to the incomplete healing, causing changes of the nose form.
